BEAD PEEPS SWAP 'N' HOP

Welcome to my blog and the third annual Bead peeps swap 'n' hop.

My partner this year was Natlalie Davidson who's blog is  here http://www.northshoredays.com.

I sent Natalie what i hope was a challenging mix of beads pictured below. 

Lots of natural agates, amethyst , cherry quartz and beautiful ceramic focal.

The beads Natalie sent me were wonderful and very challenging! so many colours.

I got stuck in straight away using the main Paua shell focal and dyed hoplite.

I adore the colours in this focal so wanted to keep it simple with a basic silver chain dotted with the howlite and the little daisies , i had just enough left to make a matching pair of earrings.

After making this necklace i hit a wall and kept coming and going from my beads until something clicked!

'Smartie' Bracelets!

Whilst playing lining up the same colours these sweet little bracelets seemed to form themselves.

                                                                                                              

                                               

      

                               

I absolutely love how these turned out, such a simple design but really eye catching.

My attention then tuned to the wonderful bird clasp and glass flowers and i decided to reverse it up like this.

Natalie had sent the flowers on a string and they looked so pretty i wanted to emulate that in the design. So each each connected to the other in a pretty waterfall and then attached to the dove clasp using a tiny silver flower cap. All i then added was some purple glad beads to the chain and placed the toggle through the clasp.

I thought i was beaded out at this point but yesterday (Friday) i had a last minute flash of inspiration when i found a little bead from 'Grubbie ceramics'

So i managed to put together this set which i am planning to wear today.

Adding simple wooden beads to the pretty shell diamond beads and focal bead i added made the perfect relaxed beach bracelet and earrings set.

Bead soup hoarders edition reveal

Welcome to my reveal.

Firstly a huge thank you to Lori Anderson for going all out and getting us all back together swapping.

  

I didn't really get to show you the wonderful beads my swap partner Elaine Robitaille sent me,so here they are. 

Some beautiful polymer clay pieces from Elaine! A hoarded bead from Michaela Pabeschit, pretty glass flowers from Fran Davis Dragonfire Studio, lamp work from Cheryl Harris

 

The first bead I used was a pretty lamp work lentil bead as my focal and sat for a while pondering what i should do with it.

Then whilst going through my stash of beads i came across some pretty pink spacers which complimented the pink on the lentil. 

Add to those some lovely tiny agate and chain along with a previous swap item a lovely leather feather from (Rachel Mallis @Mint Monarch)

And i finished one necklace:

Next i decided to use the lovely vibrant flower lamp work and turned them into some simple earrings.

I made a flat headed silver pin to fit through the centre of the flower so i could hang them as simple earrings.

Partner introduction

Bead soup Partner intro. 

This year i told myself i was not going to enter the Bead soup swap!

Then Lori Anderson the wonderful founder of the Bead soup swap changed it up a gear!

This year we were encouraged to swap a bead that we have hoarded, something special that we kept popped in a box (in my case) that we might use one day (yeah right!)

Loves

So in this post i am sharing some of my loves. Items i have made and found. Things that intrigue me. I adore nature and quirky items,toadstools delight me and miniatures are fascinating! I love the nature and all of its treasures. 

I love challenging myself to make tiny items. 

Catching Up

What can i say, i know I'm not the only one who just doesn't update their blog regularly.(At all!)
Its not that i haven't been crafting i just never seem to find the time to blog about it!
So anyhow here goes.
I have signed up to some blog hops in the hope (again) it will motivate me to seriously get back into my worksheet and really get going on my jewellery making.
Of course now i have been sat going through all of my hoarded beads marvelling at all the wonderful pretties and still not really doing anything. Yes i do believe its a real addition! Well my hubby keeps saying it is!
Any how i finally managed to find some real beauties that i really hope my partner will adore and be able to make into a wonderful piece of jewellery.

Can't wait to see what Rachel does with the pink and blue heart/leaf beads as she professed they would be a challenge.

Talking of which here is a picture of my bead tray taken a while ago with the fab mix that Rachel sent me.

And here is my first piece

I used the wonderful textured/coloured focal bead from Doris Nahle of Australia as my inspiration.

Lots of naturals and textures to compliment it.

The wooden tubes from New York were used as connecting beads.

So the main necklace has seeds and orange square shell beads running down into shell connector bars and to the focal.

The shell connector bars were then chained to a lovely textured shell oval which in turn was connected to another oval using the wooden tubes.

The base shell then had some tiny pearls added to the copper discs at each side just to bring it together.

I used the pretty clasp which reminded me of the sun and moon to finish the necklace.

(On reflection i may make the necklace a little shorter so the breast plate shells sit higher)

Rachel also sent me some wonderful enamels from 4ophelia of Canada and lamp work beads by Meital plotnik of Israel, which tied in nicely with the main focal colour scheme. 

So two pairs of earrings were made.

Here is the first, it was impossible to get a good picture of the enamel without bleaching out the tiny pearls! 

The second pair using my copper headpins and discs 

Here they are together.

 My last piece nearly didn't get made as i could not find they right chain for it,but last minute inspiration saved the day! 

This was my last piece i wanted to try something completely different and disorganised.

So using a random mix of items Rachel sent and my own beads this is what i came up with!

From left to right there is Cherry quartz and frosted teal glass, turquoise, raw quartz, 

headpin from Janna Petrovna of Bulgaria

Carved bone bead, 

Red Enamel from 4Ophelia of Canada 

Antique key, spotty stone, kynite, blister pearl and another raw quartz point.

I spaced each bead out using headpins wrapped around the main necklace.

This is my favourite make of the swap (so far)

I have lots of wonderful beads left and will be using them over coming months, especially the gorgeous leather feathers made by Rachel.

Belated Bead Swap partner introduction

Well here i am with a very belated introduction to my Swap 'n' Hop partner!

Rachel and i have been sending messages back and forth working out likes and dislikes and i must admit i changed what i was sending a couple of times just to add more of a challenge.

Rachel is studying Sculpture and has always had an interest in jewellery, which is wonderful as i took my degree in sculpture and turned to making jewellery and mini sculpture. 

After i sent my parcel it arrived very quickly and i think Rachel liked the goodies inside!

I was on tender-hooks waiting for my parcel and was so happy once it arrived i opened it in a rush and then had retrace my steps to get a couple of photos of the fabulous boxes my goodies were packed in.

(I love boxes!)

And inside each one came more and more wonderful treats. I was slightly overwhelmed.
